They are recruiting for a Head of Health and Safety to provide strategic leadership, direction and specialist advice on H&S policy and practice to our client.
About the role
Reporting to CEO, the Head of Health and Safety is responsible for the line management of one member of staff, a Health & Safety Advisor; the management of the H&S team’s budget and for sourcing / managing additional consultancy support as needed. They are also a core member of the National Health and Safety Committee; providing specialist advice and support to the business as required. The main purpose of the role is to lead on assurance activities to ensure teams across our client are working in line with legislative requirements, policies, and procedures. Designing, delivering and maintaining a health and safety change programme to embed and drive a positive safety culture across the organisation, as well as ensuring the timely delivery of associated underpinning health and safety management action plans and operational programmes, is at the heart of this role. The Head of Health and Safety will create, embed and monitor the health and safety strategy across our client's business.
Additionally, the Head of Health and Safety will promote a culture of openness, learning and continuous improvement whilst ensuring compliance with H&S legislation. This is to empower senior managers, peers and colleagues to develop and embed behaviours and actions which ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of employees, customers and visitors. The Head of Health and Safety will also lead on safety inspections and audits, carrying out investigations and supporting emergency planning and incident response.
About you
Our client are looking for someone who has:

Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health & Safety (NEBOSH or equivalent).

Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or on the way to achieving this).

Extensive knowledge and experience of relevant legislation and guidance and its application including occupational health and safety, construction safety and visitor / water safety.

Knowledge of key health and safety compliance standards i.e. asbestos, water hygiene and contractor management, and enforcement expectations

Proven track record in building effective internal and external relationships that generate confidence, respect, and collaborative working at all levels.

Strong analytical skills, focused on evidence and insight; able to identify solutions, shape guidance and advice, and embed good practice.

Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and efficiency, taking responsibility for managing and improving all relevant standards, policies, processes, and governance relating to the role.

Experience of developing and delivering training and learning programmes.

Excellent organisational skills and able to demonstrate determination, focus and self-awareness needed to sustain effectiveness.

Understanding and practical application of Incident Management Plans
BSI 18001/45001 Internal Auditor qualification would be helpful
