Our client are an international leader in complex logistics. They provide safe, secure and professional transportation services on behalf of various public sector organisations. A national organisation, with a substantial presence in Scotland. Our client have 8 vehicle depots across the country and their control centre, based near Glasgow. Our client already has Armed Forces Veterans as part of it’s management team and roughly 25% of the entire workforce are Armed Forces Veterans. So, they are looking to expand that in recognition of the skill and fit that ex-Forces could bring. They are currently recruiting for a new Head of Logistics to lead logistics operations across Scotland.

About the role
The Head of Logistics is responsible for delivering service across Operations in Scotland by maximising levels of effectiveness and efficiency of resources. The Head of Logistics will lead the team and ensure the team is fully equipped to deliver what is required. This role will also be a focal point for future logistical innovation and implementation of new technologies and be required to implement a significant change programme across the Logistics function. Specific deliverables include:

Optimal planning and management of the people resources required to deliver service thereby ensuring operational performance and achievement of KPI targets

Continually driving and embedding service delivery improvements

Managing and mitigating operational and financial risk

Continually developing cost reduction initiatives that improve competitiveness within the market place

Ensuring the Logistics Centre has the capacity, capability and employee engagement to fully support field-based operational teams

Developing and managing key relationships internally and externally, including regular interaction with customers

Delivering the Logistics Centre transition plan
About you
Our client are looking for applicants who have extensive operational logistics experience combined with senior leadership experience, ideally of teams focused on delivery of services . Additionally, they are keen to see applicants who've led innovative change programmes to improve operations/efficiencies previously. Previous experience in building resilience into teams would be advantageous.
You should be comfortable working at a high-pace, in a target-driven environment, which requires decision-making in real time. Also, you should be happy to work with short lead times. Our client want someone who can influence change and bring operational improvements to diverse teams. You should be confident in challenging the status-quo to positively influence business objectives.
In terms of specific competencies, our client want someone who has excellent problem solving skills and has financial, commercial and business acumen. You should have excellent analytical, organisational and planning skills. It would be advantageous if this could combine strategic level planning with tactical level implementation. Furthermore, you should be an excellent people leader with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
This role would suit someone who has Warrant Officer - Maj/ Sqn Ldr/ Lt Cmdr level experience, either within the Armed Forces or equivalent civilian experience. Coming from a Logistics trade would be beneficial but not essential, although a vehicular logistics posting would be advantageous.
